Teaching Teachers in Mongolia

Dynamic Ministry Provides Practical and Spiritual Support

For the past ten years, the Teachers’ Ministry of our sister organisation in Mongolia has been offering summer camps for teachers. These camps meet a local need for specialized professional training for educators, who typically suffer from a lack of resources, a solid professional foundation and continuing education opportunities to equip them to inspire their students. In additional to offering specialized training in language and pedagogy, these weeklong gatherings offer participants the opportunity to learn about the Christian faith.

This year’s camp was held in the northern province of Selenge at the end of June. Of the 44 people who came along this year, 30 were first-time attendees, and many were influential school administrators.

A US team of instructors came to teach seminars designed to give the participating teachers fresh ideas to use in their classrooms. Don, an experienced educator from Colorado, also took time to visit four other provinces for shorter workshops. The response was overwhelming, opening doors for the local ministry team to return for follow-up and cultivating new sources for camp participants in the coming year. Local ministry workers look forward to these new opportunities to bring the message of hope into even more schools across Mongolia.

In addition to professional instruction during the day, the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) Mongolia offer presentations on spiritual topics in the evenings. As the basics of faith are presented, participants always have the opportunity to ask questions and give a personal response. This summer, nearly a dozen teachers indicated they had made a faith decision and wanted to know more about living as a Christian. The number of local teachers now working as ministry volunteers has also risen to seven across the region.
